Barker Child Development Center
In Spring 2012, the Door County YMCA reopened a 5,500-square-foot daycare facility on Egg Harbor Road in Sturgeon Bay that had closed during the economic downturn. The Barker Youth Development Center (named in honor of Y leader and philanthropist, Ruth Barker) serves nearly 100 children on a daily basis with early childhood care, quality programming and YMCA enrichment opportunities. This program center has attained a YoungStar 4 Star rating and provides an important connection to the Y with peace of mind for working families in our community. Our certified staff seeks to instill self confidence in children, working to develop their motor, cognitive, language and social skills. The Y provides daycare children with balanced nutritious meals and encourages healthy eating habits. All children enrolled fulltime receive a youth membership to the Door County YMCA and take regular trips to the Y for fun and age appropriate activities.
