Sturgeon Bay Program Center

Upcoming Stars

Ages 2 through 3

Calling all Mommies and Daddies with a 2 or 3 year old to come join us for a new class! It is a dance class where Mommy, Daddy, Grammy or Grampy can come and assist thier little ballerina in the art of basic dance, music and movement with our dance instructor Michelle Koontz. 

 

 


First Stars (ballet & tap)

Ages 4 to 5

This is a class for beginners to introduce them to the world of dance. Your child will enjoy learning rhythm, movement and beginning dance skills in both tap and ballet. 

 

 


Mini Stars  (ballet & tap)

Ages 6 through 7

This ballet and tap class challenges the continuing dancer as well as introduces the new student to the art of dance. At this level the students work on rhythm and dance activities along with creative dance routines to help them improve their dancing abilities. Skills and techniques to enhance their knowledge of dancing fundamentals are a part of each class. 

 

 


Rising Stars (ballet, tap and jazz)

Ages 7+ (or by teacher recommendation)

This is an intermediate class for the continuing dancer - prior dance experience is necessary. This class continues to teach further in the areas of ballet and tap, but also introduces the students to jazz style of dancing. The students will learn more advanced techniques, step combinations and dance routines. A wide variety of music will be used, including some current popular songs! 

 

 


Shooting Stars (ballet, tap & jazz)

Students must have completed Rising Stars level with instructor approval to advance and register for the Shooting Stars level. Continued challenging choreography and skill building routines and exercises are what this level of dance is about. These dance students are focused and are continuing to work to develop self-discipline through the art of dance. At this level we focus not only on the proper step execution and body position, but also develop each dancer's stage presence. Student-based choreography will also be incorporated into the class. 

 

 


Brite Stars (ballet, tap & jazz)

Ages 10 through 12

Students must have completed Shooting Stars level with instructors approval to advance and register for this level. Students will take it up a couple of notches with greater challenges as they work to improve their dance performance. At this level we focus not only on the proper execution and body position, but also develop each dancer's stage presence. The students will take an active part in the choreography and learn all aspects of dance. 

 

 


New! Rhythm Stars

Ages 8+ 

This introductory - level hip-hop class provides a structured method of learning various hip-hop dance movements in a fun filled class environment. This class is an energetic class that not only teachs hip-hop movement and techniques, but also instills rhythm and precision. 

*Soft-sole sneakers - preferably dance sneakers required.

 

 

Northern Door Program Center

Boys Dance Level 1

Age 4 - 6

Designed for boys who love to move, this class will introduce the concepts of rhythm, body movement control and basic dance choreography using Hip Hop and Funk dance styles and music.  The high-energy 30 minutes will be filled with fun moves and maybe even some trash can drum-sets.  The stage at Door Community Auditorium will be rocking as these dancers show off their moves during the Spring Recital!

*Dress Code: loose, comfortable street-clothes.  Athletic shoes with NON-MARKING soles.

 

 


Boys Dance Level 2

Age 7 - 8

A continuation of Level 1, though no previous dance experience is required.  Students will further explore movement and rhythm through Hip Hop and Funk music and dance styles.  Popping, locking, stomping, isolations and funky footwork will keep your guy moving during this dynamic 30 minute class.  Performance experience during our Spring Recital at Door Community Auditorium will make him feel like a star and build confidence!

*Dress Code: loose, comfortable street-clothes.  Athletic shoes with NON-MARKING soles.

 

 


Preschool Dance

Ages 3 - 4 (and 5 year-olds who are not yet in Kindergarten)

Preschoolers love to move and this class is designed to encourage them to wiggle, shake and groove!  We will follow a curriculum which introduces concepts of rhythm, creative movement, pre-ballet and tap for our youngest dancers.  Dance vocabulary is also introduced.  At the end of the six month session we will share our progress with the community during our Spring Recital at Door Community Auditorium.

*Dress code: a leotard and tights are required for class.  Ballet skirts are optional, however no tutus will be allowed.  Pink leather ballet shoes and black tap shoes are required.  There will be an order form available for those who need to purchase these items at the time of registration.  Long hair must be secured up and off the face and neck.  Short hair should be securely pinned back.

 

 


Youth Dance Level 1

Age 5 - 6

A class for children who would like to move beyond basic creative movement, this class will introduce beginning ballet and tap concepts through fun exercises and occasional dance games.  Dance vocabulary will be taught along with dance class etiquette.  Focusing on body movement control, rhythm and musicality as well as memorization are the key concepts.  Your young dancer will get a chance to shine during our Spring Recital at the Door Community Auditorium.

*Dress code: a leotard and tights are required for class.  Ballet skirts are optional, however no tutus will be allowed.  Pink leather ballet shoes and black tap shoes are required.  There will be an order form available for those who need to purchase these items at the time of registration.  Long hair must be secured up and off the face and neck.  Short hair should be securely pinned back.

 

 


Youth Dance Level 2

Age 7 - 8

Building on the concepts from Level 1, this class will further explore ballet and tap curriculum through stretching, floor work and barre exercises, as well as introducing strength and flexibility.  Students will further explore musicality and memorization will be improved.   Dance vocabulary will be expanded.  Students will also be given an introduction to jazz and hip-hop dance technique.  Valuable performance experience will be gained during the Spring Recital at the Door Community Auditorium.  Previous dance experience is not necessary but strongly encouraged. 

*Dress code: a leotard and tights are required for class.  Ballet skirts are optional, however no tutus will be allowed.  Pink leather ballet shoes and black tap shoes are required.  There will be an order form available for those who need to purchase these items at the time of registration.  Long hair must be secured up and off the face and neck.  Short hair should be securely pinned back.

 

 


Youth Dance Level 3

Age 9 - 11

This twice-weekly class will greatly expand upon the curriculum from Levels 1 & 2.  Ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop styles will be taught with emphasis on technique and proper alignment.  Students will be expected to perform proper stretching exercises along with exercises designed to improve strength and flexibility.  The use of memorization and musicality will be expected and dance vocabulary will be used.  A chance to perform on the stage at the Door Community Auditorium during our Spring Recital will allow each dancer to soak-up her well-earned applause!

Previous dance experience is recommended.  Instructor approval required for students without experience.

*Dress code: a leotard and tights are required for class.  Ballet skirts are optional, however no tutus will be allowed.  Pink leather ballet shoes, black tap shoes and black jazz shoes are required.  There will be an order form available for those who need to purchase these items at the time of registration.  Long hair must be secured up and off the face and neck.  Short hair should be securely pinned back.
