DCY Swim Team Excels at State - Captures 88 Awards

Swim Team

Over the past 2 weekends, The Door County YMCA swim team competed in 2 separate State Championships to maintain safety standards for each meet. The 10-Under State Championship was held at 6 sites, and all meet results combined as one State meet. The 11-Over meet was held at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Milwaukee. We had a total of 54 swimmers qualify for the State meet, just shy of our team record. All swimmers have to meet time standards to swim at the meet. At the 10-Under State meet, we had a fantastic meet, ending with 13-1st place finishes, 16 - 2nd Place, and 11-3rd Place. We had spectacular performances from our 8-Under age group, with the boys reigning State Champions in the 100 Medley and 100 Free Relays. (Aiden Schley, Odin Deviley, Jackson Ruenger, Landon Reinhardt) . Aiden Schley added 4 more individual State Championships in the 25/50 Breast, 25 Fly, and 50 Back!  Zofia Michalski, another 8-Under star, won the 50 Free, and placed 2nd in 6 other events. The 8-Under boys team won the High Point State Meet trophy for their performances!

At the 11-Over State meet, we continued our tremendous performance with 2 more State Championships, 2nd Place-6 individual, 2 relays, 3rd place-8 ind., 2 relays. Our 11-12 age group had a superb meet, with Zone Wienke claiming State Championship honors in the 50/100 freestyle. Throughout the meet , we continually outswam our seed times and place, culminating in a 2nd Place TEAM Trophy! This performance ties 1 other year as the top TEAM position at the State Championship Meet.

With a year that posed so many obstacles and hardships, this season is a shining light on cooperation, dedication and perseverance; not only with our swimmers, but our entire YMCA, parents, and coaches.
