Door County YMCA Striver Gymnastics Team Shines at “Flipping in Door County” Invitational
Sturgeon Bay, WI — The Door County YMCA Striver Gymnastics Team hosted its annual Flipping in Door County Invitational on January 17–18 at the Sturgeon Bay Gymnastics Center, welcoming six YMCA gymnastics programs from across Wisconsin.
Teams from the Door County, Green Bay, Heart of the Valley, Marinette Menominee, Manitowoc–Two Rivers, and Kettle Moraine YMCAs competed in the two-day event. Gymnasts participated across USAG Levels 1–8 and Excel Bronze, Silver, and Gold, with approximately 375 athletes taking part.
The Striver Gymnastics Team delivered an outstanding performance, earning three Gold Team Championships. First-place team trophies were awarded to Level 8, Excel Silver, and Excel Gold.
The Level 8 Team captured gold with a team score of 67.90. Standout performances included Estelle Duerst, who excelled on floor, vault, bars, and the all-around with a score of 34.35, while also earning silver on beam. Amira Anschutz contributed strong finishes, shining on vault and beam and placing second on floor.
In the Excel Gold Division, the Strivers secured first place with a team score of 144.50. Jessa Varney dominated her age division, earning gold on floor, vault, beam, and the all-around with a score of 36.15. Evelynn Kelsey, competing in the 14-and-over age group, captured gold on vault and the all-around with a score of 35.95, while Keira Clark earned gold on vault and beam and silver in the all-around with a score of 35.55.
The Excel Silver Team also claimed gold with an impressive score of 146.40. Key contributors included Charlotte Hubbing, Brielynn Lapolla, Lila Lasecki, Leela Lama, and Piper Delarwelle. Hubbing led the team, earning gold on bars, vault, beam, and the all-around with a score of 37.35, along with bronze on floor. Lapolla captured gold on bars, floor, and the all-around in the nine-and-under age group, scoring 35.65. Lasecki earned gold on beam and silver on vault, floor, and the all-around with a score of 35.50. Lama secured gold on floor and silver in the all-around with a score of 34.90, while Delarwelle earned silver on vault, bars, and the all-around, scoring 36.40.
The Striver Gymnastics Team will continue its season at the Snowflake Invitational, hosted by the Sheboygan YMCA from January 30–February 1, featuring approximately 800 gymnasts from YMCAs across Wisconsin. Additional competitions include meets at the Marinette Menominee YMCA on February 7–8, a 12-team invitational at the Kettle Moraine YMCA in March, and the State Tournament at Bay Port High School on March 28–29.
