Door County YMCA Striver Gymnasts Celebrate Continued Success!
The Door County YMCA Striver Gymnastic Team achieved remarkable success at the 2025 Candy Cane Classic Invitational, which took place this past weekend at the Fond Du Lac County Fairgrounds, organized by the Fond Du Lac YMCA. Over 850 gymnasts from Wisconsin YMCAs joined in on the annual event.
Continuing their impressive 2025 season with a notable three-win streak, the Striver Excel Silver team upheld its legacy following a victorious three-peat State Championship reign. This time, the Silvers clinched the team championship with an outstanding score of 145.65, marking their third consecutive team victory this season among eight competing teams. Piper Delarwelle and Louisa (Lulu) Grenfell spearheaded the efforts, with Piper earning gold in both the all-around and vault, achieving an all-around score of 36.10. Additionally, she secured silver on bars and placed sixth on beam. Lulu excelled in her floor exercise performance, bringing home gold, and earned silver in the all-around with a score of 35.90, along with fourth on beam and seventh on vault. Other notable teammates included Kali Tamble, Adela Cordua-Stenzel, Lyra Scrimgeour, Leela Lama, Oksana Fediuk, Maisie Kelnhofer, Jennifer Bagneski, Laurel Lasecki, and Cambria Deeter. With three championship seasons to their credit, the Striver Excel Silver team is eager to sustain its winning momentum throughout the remainder of the 2025-2026 season.
In the Excel Gold Level, Jessa Varney secured championship medals on vault, floor, and all-around with a score of 36.525. She also achieved silver on beam and placed sixth on bars. Jessa's podium-finish teammates included Keira Clark, Evelynn Kelsey, Greta Virgin, Cosette Orrick, Jackson Varney, Annabel Smullen, Genevieve Gigstead, and Ellie Kelsey. The Gold team proudly finished third overall out of 12 competing teams, scoring 142.75.
Level eight gymnast Amira Anschutz made it to the podium by medaling in four out of five events. She earned silver on both floor exercise and vault, bronze on beam, and secured fourth place in the all-around with a score of 32.90.
The excitement continues as the team gears up for their home meet the weekend of January 17th and 18th at the Door County YMCA Gymnastic Center. The public is welcome to join in on the competition and view some great gymnastics throughout the two-day event.
The Striver team is coached by head coach Nikki Pollman, Gerritt DeJonge, Heather Haese, Mikki Rankin, Stacy Berguis, and, most recently, assisted by Julia Lasecki and Level 8 gymnast Estelle Duerst, both helping with the Excel Silver Team.
