Door County YMCA Strivers Gymnastics Team Strikes Gold at Safari Invitational

DOOR COUNTY, WI —The Door County YMCA Strivers Gymnastic Team captured gold this weekend at the six-team “Safari” Invitational hosted by the Manitowoc YMCA. Starting the competition for the Strivers with two of their four Level 8 gymnasts. Estelle Duerst won gold medals on the floor exercise, uneven bars, and all-around categories. She also earned silver on vault and beam. Amira Anschutz secured bronze medals on both vault and beam.

The Silver Team secured the gold medal in the team competition with a score of 111.60. Jessa Varney led the team in the ten-and-younger age group, winning gold in the all-around with a score of 37.45. She also excelled on the floor, scoring a 9.6, and she won the vault with a score of 9.4. Varney earned a silver medal on bars and placed fourth on beam. Teammate Genevieve Gigstead won silver in both the all-around and vault, while finishing third on floor and sixth on beam.

Jackson Varney also claimed silver in the all-around and on bars and placed fourth on both bars and beam. Cosette Orrick, twelve and older group, won gold on bars, silver in the all-around, and the floor. She placed fifth on beam and sixth on vault. Milana Reifsynder earned a bronze medal on beam, finished fourth in both floor and all-around, and placed sixth on vault. Maisie Kelnhofer secured fourth place in both vault and the all-around. Annabelle Smullen achieved fifth place on vault and floor, and sixth on beam, bars, and in the all-around. Piper Delarwelle won a bronze medal on bars and placed sixth on beam. Peyton Watermelon earned a bronze medal on floor, while Louis Grenfell finished fifth on floor.

Platinum gymnast Shaylyn Asher won gold in the all-around competition with a score of 35.65 and secured a gold medal on the beam with a score of 9.2. She also earned a bronze medal on the bars and placed fourth on both the floor and vault.

The Excel Gold Team won Silver in the team competition, achieving a score of 105.55. Evelynn Kelsey led the team by winning gold in the all-around (35.90), as well as in the floor and beam events. She also earned a silver medal on vault and placed fourth on bars. Keira Clark won silver in the all-around (35.20) and on beam, while also taking home a bronze medal in both floor and bars. Ellie Kelsey earned a bronze medal in the all-around and on beam. Greta Virgin won bronze on floor, placed fourth on beam, and finished fifth on bars.

The Striver Team will be heading to the YMCA State Gymnastics Tournament next weekend in West Bend, Wisconsin. This year, the State Championships are hosted by the Kettle Moraine YMCA.
