Door County YMCA Swim Team Shines at YMCA Fall Invitational, Achieves National and State Time Cuts

Sunday, November 16, at the YMCA Fall Invitational held at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Milwaukee. As the first major invitational of the season, the meet brought together several of the top teams from across Wisconsin, creating a highly competitive and memorable experience for all athletes.


Traveling together by bus, the DCY team brought 51 swimmers—a tradition that creates lasting memories and builds a strong sense of team unity for athletes of all ages, from brand-new swimmers to seasoned leaders.
The team’s collective success was impressive, highlighted by a National cut achieved by Daylia Sund in the 100 Breaststroke, along with more than 30 State qualifying swims and an incredible 58 individual best times. Every swimmer who earned a personal best received a signature Best Time Bead, a meaningful team tradition worn proudly on custom bracelets.


Swimmer of the Meet was awarded to Gwen Preis, 13, who achieved best times in both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle, and placed 4th in the 200 Breaststroke.

DCY athletes were permitted to swim three events each, and the team's results reflect consistent dedication, strong coaching, and a positive team atmosphere. “The DCY Swim Team continues to demonstrate the power of hard work, teamwork, and a supportive community,” said Coach Mike McHugh, Competitive Swim Coach for the Door County YMCA. “We are incredibly proud of all our swimmers for representing the Y with determination, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm.”


The Door County YMCA invites the community to cheer on the DCY Swim Team at their upcoming Jingle Bell Meet on December 13. Community members are also encouraged to visit the facility and see the newly installed scoreboard, a major enhancement to the aquatic center.
