Door County YMCA Youth in Government Delegation Shines at Madison Conference

Sturgeon Bay, WI –– The Door County YMCA’s Youth in Government (YIG) delegation showcased their leadership and legislative skills at the statewide Youth in Government Conference in Madison this past weekend. Several students from the delegation achieved remarkable accomplishments, highlighting their dedication to civic engagement and public service.

Elise Jackson earned the distinguished honor of being elected President of the Senate and was also recognized as Outstanding Senator, a testament to her leadership and commitment to policy discussion.

Lauren Meacham demonstrated exceptional legal knowledge, securing the role of Chief Justice, a pivotal position overseeing the judicial proceedings of the conference.

Additionally, three delegates successfully passed legislation, demonstrating their ability to draft and advocate for impactful policies. Elise Jackson, Ben Grota, and Violet Jackson each had bills that made it through the legislative process, a significant achievement in the Youth in Government program.

“We are incredibly proud of our delegation’s accomplishments this year,” said a representative from the Door County YMCA. “Their dedication to public service, leadership, and the democratic process is inspiring. These students are truly the future leaders of our communities.”

The Youth in Government program provides students with a hands-on experience in state government, allowing them to engage in debate, draft legislation, and participate in a simulated government setting. The Door County YMCA remains committed to fostering these opportunities for young leaders.
