Striver “Excel Gold” Gymnasts Earn Gold
January 24 - The Door County YMCA Strivers Gymnastics Team earned Gold this weekend in Menominee, Michigan. The gymnasts competed in the “Pink” Invitational hosted by the Marinette Menominee YMCA. Teams competing this weekend were The Door County YMCA, Green Bay YMCA, Heart of the Valley YMCA, and the Manitowoc YMCA.
The Excel Gold gymnasts captured Gold, placing first as a team with a score of 106.85. The Gold Team takes the top three scores on each event to determine the Team total. The Striver Gold group entered the meet with three gymnasts only. There were scratches from their usual six-member group. The girls performed to the best of their abilities and came out on top. Individual gymnasts for Excel Gold are Alexa Seyfer-Jimenes who earned gold on the floor with a 9.4, gold on beam scoring 9.5, and gold in the All-Around with a 36.20. Alexa also grabbed a bronze medal on vault 8.5. Teammate Shylee Asher grabbed gold on vault with an 8.7 and bronze on beam9.2 and bronze in the All-Around with a 35.05. Amelia Zoschke, captured gold on bars 8.9, silver in the All-Around with a 35.50, and bronze on beam scoring 9.2.
Level Six gymnasts captured a fourth-place Team with 103.50 points. Placing for the group were Amira Anschutz who won gold on the vault with a 9.0, silver on beam earning a 9.2, and fourth on the floor with a 9.15. Julia Gregory captured silver on beam with a 9.2, vault 8.6, bars 7.6, and silver in the All-Around scoring a 33.85. Estelle Duerst earned bronze on floor 9.3, beam 9.0, bars 8.1, and a fourth-place finish in the All-Around scoring 34.60. Teammate Lauren Pratt grabbed a fourth place on floor 9.15 and vault 8.5.
The Excel Silver Group placed second as a Team scoring 102.60. Placing for the Silver Group was Keira Wesley who won gold on the floor (9.3) and silver on vault (8.9) Evelynn Kelsey grabbed gold on the floor in the 13 and under group with a 9.3 while Shaylyn Asher earned silver on the floor (9.1) and vault (8.7).
The Striver Gymnastic Team has its next competition on February 19th at the Sheboygan YMCA and the State Tournament will follow in March with the Sheboygan YMCA hosting that tournament.
