The Final Countdown: Capital Campaign Within $130,000 of Goal
The Door County YMCA is happy to announce the Capital Campaign for the renovation and expansion of the Sturgeon Bay Program Center is within $130,000 of it’s $10.2 million dollar goal! “We believe this goal is well within reach”, says CEO Tonya Felhofer, “There might be one more surprise gift out there, which would be truly amazing”, she continued.
As 2023 kicked off the Door County Y’s membership reached an all-time high of 9,257 members, programs are full, and both facilities are buzzing with activity. In early December contractors moved inside of the Sturgeon Bay Program Center and began renovations. Half of the facility is now under renovation where new class spaces and community spaces will be located. Additionally precast walls started going up outside and the new Youth Activity Center, which will house camp and afterschool programs, and the new Wellness Center are beginning to take shape.
“To say it’s crowded and crazy is an understatement”, says Felhofer, “Our members have been and continue to be incredibly flexible and positive. They are using alternate entry points, have had to be flexible as we have relocated class spaces, have learned to navigate new ways of accessing bathrooms and locker rooms, and have endured pounding, jackhammering and contractors in and out of their classes. Despite all of that, they are thankful and excited about the future of this center.
Everyone working together for the greater good, this is community!”
