Sturgeon Bay, WI, June 4, 2024 – The Door County YMCA is thrilled to announce the success of its Annual Campaign, meeting all fundraising goals and reaffirming its commitment to the community through Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. This year’s campaign, fueled by the generous support of local businesses, individual donors, and dedicated volunteers, raised over $602,000 – an all time high for the organization.

“Our community’s generosity and incredible compassion have made this achievement possible,” said Brett Cleveland, Mission Advancement Executive of the Door County YMCA. “The realization of our campaign goal ensures that we’re able to continue to meet the needs of our community and create a positive impact in the lives of countless individuals and families in Door County. We are truly grateful to everyone who contributed their time, effort, or resources into making this year’s campaign such a success.”

Community Impact

The funds raised every year through the Y’s Annual Campaign are directly reinvested into vital programs and services that benefit individuals of all ages across Door County. With this year’s strong results, the Door County Y will be able to:

  • Continue the expansion of Youth Development Programs – In addition to Youth Sports and Water Safety programming, the Door County Y is rapidly expanding offerings to include Before School Childcare, 3k and 4k preschool programs, STEM programming, and Art and Spanish classes. Additional spaces and programming are also being developed specifically for teens and pre-teens, providing a safe and nurturing environment outside of school hours.
  • Increase Access to Health and Wellness Services – As our community demographics shift and its needs evolve, support of the Y’s annual campaign allows staff to remain dynamic in updating equipment and developing new and more personalized programs to serve the community. This past year saw the launch of popular adult fitness programs like “Sports Performance Training”, “Aqua Yoga”, and “Silver Sneakers - Boom”.
  • Build Socially Responsible Youth and Adults  – One of the most exciting initiatives made possible by donors this past year was the installation of two hydroponic garden systems at the Sturgeon Bay Facility. This system allows for the involvement of children in the food lifecycle process from start to finish, taking on tasks such as germination of seeds, planting “pods” in the hydroponic garden, harvesting vegetables, and preparing meals using the produce grown on site. Free meals continue to be available daily for children, seniors, and adults with disabilities.
  • Provide Financial Assistance – A significant portion of the $602,000 will be allocated to scholarships and financial aid, ensuring that everyone in the community, regardless of financial circumstances, can access the Door County Y’s programs and services

Looking Forward

Coming off a successful fundraising campaign and a significant facility expansion at the Sturgeon Bay facility, the Door County Y is well-positioned to continue its mission of connecting with families and individuals of all ages, in pursuit of well-being and a healthy, vibrant, values-driven community. “On behalf of our staff here at the Door County Y, I’d like to thank all of our generous donors and community partners who have contributed to our Annual Campaign success,” says CEO, Tonya Felhofer. “The coming year brings many new opportunities to serve our mission and impact our community, and I look forward to working with all of our community partners and stakeholders to meet the needs of the Door County community.”
